Hello Dr N. My daughter is amazingly recovered thanks to you and God I found your protocol. I'm in the fb group with Kelsey and someone posted a question to you about missed doses of the protocol. You said we should basically double up. Is it possible to clarify that? Please. Should we make up missed dose of FO and EVOO next day? What happens if they miss more than a day? Thanks so much for the clarification on this. 🙂

Hi Dr. Nemechek, my son has been on the protocol for a year and has made great gains, but he has also put on quite a bit of weight. He went from too skinny to chubby in a year-time and keeps gaining weight. Is this a side effect you see often on kids on the protocol? When will it normalize? He's 8 and getting a tbsp of olive oil daily and 3 x Now DHA 500.
Thank you!

This is not a common effect of the protocol.

Work on good nutrition for him, limit access to food and be careful not to shame him about his weight.

They will often grow into their weight as they continue to age.

6 weeks is way too early. In some cases no improvements in speech occur in the first 6 months but they eventually come.

Hi Dr Nemechek
I finished my first course of Rifaximin 6.5 weeks ago. (adult female, with chronic fatigue) Since finishing I have had constant headaches. I am also now wondering if I need another round as I have a yeast infection situation and my tummy is feeling bit uncomfortable after eating again. however – due to the constant headaches, which have been tough, I am reluctant to take more. Could you please advise? Thank you so much

I've never seen rifaximin trigger headaches. There is some other cause such as a new trauma (physical, emotional or inflammatory).

Furthermore, no one recovers without at least taking the proper doses and blend of fish oil and olive oil.

My 11yo son has been on oils for several months. Just finished a round of rifaximin per protocol ten days ago. He is urinating constantly. His urine shows an elevated specific gravity. He's not dehydrated as he's always been great about drinking water throughout the day. I'm assuming this is protocol-related. Thoughts?

The protocol will have no effect on elevated specific gravity.

Elevated SpG is an indication of dehydration and people who are dehydrated do not urinate frequently.

Maybe he has a urinary infection – it can cause both. Take him to see his pediatrician

Hi Dr. Nemechek, My son is about to be 4years old. And has Autism, we have been in your protocol for 3+months. He is currently on 1/2 teaspoon on Inulin (NOW), 600mlgrs of fish oil (Nordic) and I cook with California Olive oil. He has a pretty clean, gluten, casein free diet and no process sugar. I see major improvement in speech, less stimming but he is more hyperactive than usual and the eye contact is the same. His awareness is on point but still not as interactive with other kids. Should I keep everything as it is or you Read more »

When they become hyperactive after starting, its probably from too much inulin

Hi,

Very inspired by all this.I care for 3 girls/women with adhd & asd and also have 4 family members with either or both. So I'm going to *try* evangelizing this to them all. One female (52 yo) had a gastric bypass (the full one) about 10 years ago…so have you any idea what doses she should take? She's kinda hostile to doctors right now so I can't get her to ask her gastro about absorption at this stage- but i know fat absorption is 50% (maybe??)

Thanks for your hard work for everyone,it's all very hopeful.

I have read the book and am beginning the protocol for my almost 4 year old son who has autism and ADHD. He is considered nonverbal and lacks significantly in his communication/socialization. However, I have already implemented (without realizing it) some of the protocol and have seen big gains. For example, he now uses words, is imitating much more, and is more aware of what's going on around him. My son has been taking the Barlean's adult fish oil dosage (EPA 900mg, DHA 590 mg, and other omega-3 of 370mg). He also has been taking the NOW probiotic-10 plus inulin Read more »

The constipation resolves as the autonomics recovery.

Don't worry so much about constipation and do not change the protocol because of constipation.

Stay focused on brain recovery.

Hello Dr. Nemechek, I need your advice. We are just starting your protocol with my 6 yo son, so I haven't noticed any difference yet. Our dentist recommended us to put him under general anesthesia to fix his teeth. But after reading in your book that surgery can work as a trigger I'm afraid to do so. What are our risks? Should we try laughing gas or something like that and in office visits instead of general anesthesia or do you think it is safe and won't affect his brain activity? I basically just don't want things to get worse Read more »

Dear Dr Nemecheck, thank you for your helping our children with your protocol. My question is about dosages. My son (3.9 years) has been on the Protocol since Oct 2018. He experienced awakening at 1/4 tsp Inulin, 1ml NNUO and EVOO. After awakening he was not anxious and lots of other gains for 2 months. He then became ill and regressed and for three months there were no further gains. I then by mistake, increased Inulin, instead of FO. He now takes 1/4 + 1/8. His stimming disappeared on the new dose of inulin. I then re-read your book and Read more »

Don't change the oils and whenever in doubt, stick with the lower dose of inulin even if the anxiety, stimming, flapping etc seem worse. Things often settle down after one to a few weeks.

Hello Dr Nemechek,

My son is 17 and under ASD, we just started your protocol. We have used Cephalexin as antibiotic. than on olive and fish oils. Question is rifaximin is a must ? Could we use Cephalexin instead?

Dear Dr. N,

My son is on NP for 6 months now and there are great gains in terms of cognition and awareness. His motor planning is also better after I have started NP. But his teeth grinding during sleep has gone worse to the extent that he gets cracks in his teeth. Can I give him deworming medicine such as albendazole while he is on NP?

Thanks in advance,
Vanitha

Hello Dr Nemechek- we read your book and ordered NOW inulin and dha for our 18 year old daughter with HF Autism, Asperger, Adhd, CPTSD, major depression, chronic generalized and social anxiety, sensory issues, former eating issues because of constant abdominal pain which lead to malnutrition, occasional PNES, leaky gut, dissociation, hallucinations, sleep issues, etc. , who had to withdraw from high school in Jan as she can hardly function and is always ill. I'm wondering, because of her age and so many co-morbid issues, whether to begin using the inulin or try to find a dr in SC who Read more »

Dear Doctor Nemechek, I use the protocol for my 4 year old son for two months. In the first week I saw a much greater awareness, unfortunately in the second week he had to take an antibiotic, there was a deterioration. At the moment there is increased interest in the environment and reaction to commands. The son has a very low result of ceruloplasmin, copper and iron. Could this be related to sibo? Ironing does not help, unfortunately there are not many specialists looking at the whole body. The son receives 1/2 teaspoon of inulin, EVOO 15 ml and 1 Read more »

Rebalancing of the gut with inulin or rifaximin can improve the intestines ability to balance and maintain normal levels of vitamins and micronutrients.

Hello Dr Nemechek,

We are scheduled to bring my son to you but not until December so we are anxiously waiting! I just have a general question for you! We are currently seeing another Dr that has prescribed Valtrex for the HHV6 virus and then Celexa and Tenex to help regulate the brain. I know you can't and won't give medical advice on another medication prescribed by another physician but I wonder if these medications can have an impact on your protocol?

Thank you for your time and we look forward to meeting you!

They would not interfere if they are being prescribed appropriately.

I personally do not believe viruses pay any role in any developmental disorder.

I am looking to start this protocol with my 16 year old with Aspergers and ADHD – at the moment giving multivitamins/minerals and probiotics. Do I need to stop all these first before starting inulin? Also, olive oil is high in salicylates and we follow a low salicylate diet (Feingold) for behaviour – is there an alternative oil you could recommend? Lastly, being in the UK, how could I source the antibiotic if this is necessary at his age? Thank you
